About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Santa Margherita vineyard lies at 490 m above sea level and is divided into four parcels on calcareous-sandy marl alternating with sand and calcarenite. Costa Sud and Costa Nord are trained as alberello and have soils rich in gypsum and fossils, contributing salinity and complexity. Terrazza and Trefile are alberello vines supported on trellises; their stony clay-limestone soils contribute fruit weight and acidity.
The general soil profile is described as clay-calcareous sand over a compact layer of limestone rock. The vineyard is managed biodynamically, holds organic certification and receives no chemical treatments. The vines average six years of age, with a planting density of 5,300 vines per hectare.
Grapes
100% Grillo.
Vinification
Harvest takes place during the first ten days of September. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts is divided between concrete tanks and oval 25 hL Austrian oak casks.
Ageing
The wine matures for ten months, partly in concrete and partly in oval 25 hL Austrian oak casks, followed by four months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The four parcels shape the profile in complementary ways: Costa Sud and Costa Nord bring salinity and complexity, while Terrazza and Trefile contribute fruit weight and acidity.
