About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from Le Forconate’s estate vineyards, which lie among olive groves in the Tuscan hills. The estate has 28 ha of vineyards, with soils composed mainly of Pliocene-era clay.

Vinification

The grapes are generally harvested by hand in the second half of September at optimal ripeness, then selected at the winery. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 22–28 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24 months in new oak barrels made from nine different types of wood.

Tasting profile

Elegant and spicy.

Label / history

Nove Legni means “nine woods” in Italian, referring to the nine types of wood used for the barrels. Le Forconate was founded in 2008 in Tuscany, near Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is part of the family-owned Barbanera wine company. The 2018 vintage received a gold medal at the 2023 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
