History
1998 — Creation of Binomio
Binomio began in 1998 through a collaboration between Fattoria La Valentina and Cantina Inama. The project took shape with the acquisition of a 4-hectare old vineyard in the locality of San Valentino, at the foot of the Maiella. Stefano Inama made a substantial contribution to its creation.
Binomio was conceived as a single-vineyard Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva. Its viticultural foundation includes a little-known, nearly forgotten Montepulciano clone called Africa, whose name derives from the bunch’s resemblance to the African continent. The project consequently brings together a modern collaboration and historic vineyard material.
Terroir
Binomio is rooted in a 4-hectare old vineyard in the locality of San Valentino, at the foot of the Maiella in Abruzzo. The wine is produced from this single site rather than from a blend of vineyards.
Winemaking
The project’s viticultural identity rests on one old vineyard and the preservation and expression of the rare Montepulciano clone known as Africa. All fruit used for Binomio Riserva comes from this single vineyard.
Production is centred on a single-vineyard Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva made from the old 4-hectare vineyard in San Valentino. The project was designed to explore the potential of Montepulciano, including the nearly forgotten Africa clone.
Philosophy
