About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The vineyards lie on the Belicello estate in Menfi, near Sicily’s southwestern coast, in a natural amphitheatre with a distinctive microclimate. The family owns 12 hectares and leases a further 3 hectares. Yields are kept low, and the grapes are harvested by hand.

Vinification

The grapes are picked in the first half of September, once the tannins have reached ideal phenolic ripeness. They undergo 10 days of skin maceration, followed by fermentation in stainless-steel tanks at 25–28 °C.

Ageing

The wine rests for five months in stainless-steel tanks and then for three months in bottle.

Tasting profile

The nose is spicy, while the palate is velvety.

Label / history

Cantine Barbera is a family winery founded in 2001. It is run by sisters Marilena and Daniela Barbera, who learned winemaking from their father before studying it professionally.
