About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from a 1.5-hectare vineyard in Menfi. The vines are 20 years old, planted at 5,000 vines per hectare in very deep alluvial soils.

Vinification

Merlot was harvested in early September, followed by Nero d’Avola and Petit Verdot in mid-September. The grapes were picked by hand, destemmed and crushed. Maceration and fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks at 25–28 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matured for 16 months in Allier oak barrels and 30-hL Slavonian oak casks. After bottling, it rested for a further six months in the winery’s cellars.

Vintage notes

In 2006, a cool winter and a warm, dry summer brought the grapes to ideal ripeness, with balanced, generous acidity and an elegant, complex aromatic profile.
