About this wine
Grapes
The blend is two-thirds Viognier, with Chardonnay making up the remainder.
Vinification
The grapes are transported with particular care to protect their skins. Each variety is gently pressed separately, after which both musts are chilled to 12–13 °C to allow the sediment to settle naturally. Fermentation takes place in 500 L acacia barrels and tonneaux, while a small proportion of the Chardonnay ferments in small, untoasted oak barrels.
Ageing
The wines mature in barrel from mid-September until the end of March, with regular lees stirring. After the final blend is assembled and bottled, the wine rests for a further 6–12 months.
Tasting profile
Elegant and harmonious.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Antinous, the beautiful young Greek favourite of Emperor Hadrian. In December 1907, a bas-relief depicting Antinous cutting two bunches of grapes from a vine was discovered near the Casale del Giglio winery. It is now held by the National Museum in Rome.
