Label / history
First produced in 1987, the wine is made at Vignaioli di Santo Stefano. The winery was founded by the Ceretto brothers with Sergio Santi and Andrea and Gianpiero Scavino in the small village where Riccardo Ceretto was born. It was established specifically to produce Moscato wines at a time when the grape was chiefly associated with mass production.
The bottle takes its classical proportions from a Greek column. Its label shows asymmetrically nested, stylized circles evoking a waxing moon and refers to The Moon and the Bonfires by Piedmontese writer Cesare Pavese.
The Ceretto family’s winemaking history began when Riccardo Ceretto moved to Alba in the 1930s. His sons Bruno and Marcello adopted a new approach in the 1960s and became known as the “Barolo Brothers” for their promotion of Barolo. The third generation now oversees the family’s nine estates, whose vineyards total more than 80 hectares and whose combined production is approximately 700,000 bottles.
