About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The organic Nero d'Avola grapes grow in the Vita area of Sicily, at 300–400 metres above sea level.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first and second ten-day periods of September and taken to the winery in small 20 kg crates. The must macerates on the skins for about 2 days at low temperatures, which helps extract soft, sweet tannins and a deep colour. Fermentation takes place at 26 °C and lasts around 12 days.
Ageing
After bottling, the wine rests in the winery's cellars for at least another 4 months.
Tasting profile
A very elegant, semi-dry red. Expressive character and refined tannins are hallmarks of the variety.
Label / history
Vitese is Colomba Bianca's organic range of nine wines. Its reds are made from Nero d'Avola, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its whites are made from Lucido, Zibibbo, Grillo, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, and its rosé from Nerello Mascalese. The range takes its name from the Vitese winery, which is surrounded by the countryside of Vita. The label shows a cedar tree, a local symbol that marks where the wines come from.
