About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Contessa Entellina Estate and other particularly suitable parts of southwestern Sicily. Vineyards are predominantly found at 200–400 m on hilly, clay-loam terrain. Mild winters are followed by dry, breezy summers with strong temperature variation between day and night. Vertical shoot positioning with Guyot pruning is used alongside other traditional training systems.

Grapes

Lucido, also known as Catarratto, together with other native and international varieties.

Vinification

The grapes undergo gentle pressing. The must ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperature.

Ageing

At least two months in tank, followed by approximately two months in bottle before release.

Technical data

2025: 12.5% alcohol by volume; total acidity 6.1 g/L; pH 3.30. Best enjoyed within three years. The lightweight bottle is made in Sicily, mainly from recycled glass.

Tasting profile

Straw yellow. Citrus and white-fleshed fruit lead the fragrant nose, joined by delicate floral notes. The palate carries the fruit forward with pronounced freshness and a savoury character.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 9–11 °C in a medium-sized, medium-height wineglass and uncork at service. Pair with assorted appetisers, raw or fried fish, vegetable flans, fresh cheeses and white meats.

Vintage notes

Consistent rain throughout the 2025 crop year and the absence of prolonged summer heat provided favourable conditions for the different varieties across the vineyards. Grape quality met the intended targets.

Label / history

Anthìlia was Donnafugata’s first wine, initially produced in 1983. Its name was the Roman name for Entella, the ancient city founded by the Elymians near today’s Donnafugata vineyards. The label portrays a mysterious, fleeting woman whose image recalls that ancient western Sicilian people and ties the wine to its place of origin.
