About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The blend brings together two Sicilian black grapes from distinct territories. Nerello Mascalese comes from the Randazzo Estate and other particularly suitable areas on Etna’s northern slope. Its vineyards lie predominantly at 600–750 m on mountainous, sandy volcanic soils. The continental climate has Mediterranean influences, cold winters and strong day-to-night temperature swings in summer.
Nocera comes from the Contessa Entellina Estate and other suitable areas. Its vineyards are predominantly at 200–400 m on hilly, clay-loam soils, with mild winters, dry and breezy summers, and good diurnal temperature variation. Nerello Mascalese is trained as traditional Etna bush vines or by vertical shoot positioning with spur-pruned cordons; Nocera uses vertical shoot positioning with spur-pruned cordons.
Grapes
Nerello Mascalese and Nocera.
Vinification
In 2025, Nocera was harvested from late August to mid-September, while Nerello Mascalese was picked during the second ten-day period of September. After gentle pressing, the must fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature.
Ageing
Three months in tank and at least three months in bottle before release.
Technical data
2025: 12.5% alcohol by volume; total acidity 5.8 g/L; pH 3.23. The wine can develop over four to five years.
Tasting profile
Bright, pale pink. The broad bouquet combines violet with delicate grapefruit and redcurrant, closing on a citrus note. Fragrant and savoury, the palate is marked by minerality and persistence.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12 °C as an aperitif or with raw fish, vegetarian dishes and delicate meats.
Vintage notes
Across western and eastern Sicily, good rainfall throughout the 2025 crop year and the absence of prolonged high summer temperatures allowed a regular vegetative and productive cycle. The harvested grapes met the intended quality targets.
Label / history
First produced in 2019, Rosa was created through the Dolce&Gabbana and Donnafugata partnership. The name highlights the rosé colour that inspired the project. Its identity pairs an unusual blend of two Sicilian varieties with coordinated graphics inspired by the iconic Sicilian cart and its associations with the island’s craftsmanship, culture and traditions.
