About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow on marl soils in southwestern Sicily.
Vinification
The fruit is harvested at night during the first ten days of August and gently pressed immediately after picking. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15–16 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests for three months in cement tanks, followed by three months in bottle.
Label / history
The label depicts a woman in motion, her hair blowing in the wind, accompanied by imagery of nature, earth and sun. This motif recalls the name Donnafugata, meaning “the woman who fled,” and the legend of Queen Maria Carolina, who escaped from Naples and took refuge in a palace in the Santa Margherita Belice valley. The same story inspired the windblown female figure appearing on many Donnafugata labels.
La Fuga has received the Vino Frutto award several times at Luca Maroni’s annual competition and a Gambero Rosso award for value for money.
