About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Donnafugata’s Tenuta di Contessa Entellina vineyards in southwestern Sicily and neighbouring areas. The plots are situated at 200–400 metres above sea level on clay and loam soils containing potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese and zinc, with limestone levels of 20–35%. The climate is marked by mild, relatively dry winters and warm, dry, windy summers. Wide day-to-night temperature differences support ripening.
Grapes
Lucido is the local name for Catarratto.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at night in late August and September. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at 14–16 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests in tank for two months, followed by three months in bottle before release.
Label / history
In Sicilian dialect, “prio” means joy or happiness. The label depicts a woman sitting on a beach at sunset on a summer day as a butterfly lands on her face.
