About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Sedàra draws on vineyards at Donnafugata’s estate in the municipality of Contessa Entellina and other particularly suitable parts of south-western Sicily. The rolling sites lie predominantly between 200 and 400 m above sea level on loamy-clay soils. Winters are mild, and summers are dry and breezy with substantial day–night temperature differences.
Vines are grown on vertical trellises with spur-cordon pruning, alongside other traditional training systems suited to quality grape production.
Grapes
Nero d’Avola, Syrah, Merlot and small proportions of other varieties; exact proportions are not specified.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, with skin maceration.
Ageing
At least 12 months in tank followed by a minimum of seven months in bottle.
Technical data

Vintage notes
The 2024 growing season was relatively dry and warmer than average, bringing the start of harvest forward by several days. Production was below average, while grape quality achieved the intended standard.
Label / history
Sedàra is dedicated to the ambitious Angelica Sedàra, portrayed by Claudia Cardinale in Luchino Visconti’s film “Il Gattopardo.” The label also evokes Donnafugata’s cellars in the municipality of Contessa Entellina.
