About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Cortese is grown on clay and sedimentary soils with southern and southeastern exposure. Vines are trained using the Guyot system at high planting density. The fruit comes from the best vines in a plot of just 0.9 hectares.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then matures on fine lees for around 6 months with regular stirring, which adds structure and depth.
Ageing
After bottling, the wine ages for at least another 12 months, retaining its freshness while developing greater complexity.
Tasting profile
A dry white with a distinctive mineral structure and refined depth, combining the freshness of Gavi with the energy of Piedmont's hills. It has texture, complexity and delicate freshness, and keeps the natural purity of the variety and the character of the appellation. The nose shows yellow flowers, ripe apple and nuts. The palate is silky with lively acidity, and the finish is long and mineral. The character is layered, with gentle minerality, and over time it gradually reveals new sides of its aroma and flavour.
Label / history
The name "Altius" comes from the Olympic motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius" ("Faster, Higher, Stronger"). It recalls Alberto Ghibellini's bronze medal in water polo at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The wine reflects the winery's organic philosophy and precise approach to the harvest. Production is limited.
