About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Cuvée XVII is an estate-grown and estate-bottled Valpolicella from vineyards in the Classico zone around Negrar. Its fruit comes from several sites at Pojega, Calcarole, Rovereti and Tomenighe, including older vines trained on pergolas. The 2024 technical sheet defines a vineyard area of 15 ha and vine ages of 20–45 years.
The clay-sandy soils contain medium-to-high levels of limestone and are rich in magnesium and calcium. Planting density ranges from 1,200 to 5,000 vines/ha. Training combines the double Veronese pergola and simple Guyot systems; rootstocks recorded for 2024 are 420 A, 41 B, K5BB and 1103P. The landscape is formed by small hills planted with vines, olive trees and cherry trees, with a climate influenced by the nearby mountains and lake.
Grapes
Latest published vintage (2025): 50% Corvina and Corvinone, 30% Rondinella, 10% Merlot and 10% Croatina. Corvina and Corvinone shape the wine’s characteristic cherry and spice profile.
Vinification
The 2024 fruit was harvested either by hand or machine according to the vineyard site. After destemming, alcoholic fermentation lasted about 10 days at 22–30°C in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats with capacities of 100–150 hl. The 2025 release underwent both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 3–12 months in concrete and stainless-steel tanks or vats, without oak. The 2024 vintage was first bottled on 2 April 2025.
Technical data
The 2025 vintage has 12.5% alcohol, total acidity of 5.1 g/L, pH 3.47 and 2.5 g/L reducing sugar. It contains sulphites. Production is approximately 40,000 bottles, and the published format is 750 ml.
The 2024 technical sheet records 12.5% alcohol, total acidity of 5.25 g/L, pH 3.57 and residual sugar of 3.1 g/L.
Tasting profile
The 2025 wine is purple-red, with spice and marasca-cherry aromas. It is medium-bodied, rounded and savoury. The 2024 is deeper and more structured than might normally be expected from the category, with clearly defined, pure dark fruit despite the absence of oak. It can be enjoyed young while retaining the capacity to develop over several years.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 14–15°C in a medium-opening goblet. Pair with pasta in meat-based sauces, especially bigoli with duck; roast or white meats; veal with tuna sauce; crostini; spinach soufflé; salami and other cold pork meats; rabbit; or steak tartare.
Vintage notes
The current 2025 release is ready to drink and has a stated ageing potential of three years. The selected 2024 technical sheet gives a broader window of one to six years from the vintage. Its analytical values also differ slightly: total acidity is 5.25 rather than 5.1 g/L, pH is 3.57 rather than 3.47, and residual sugar is 3.1 rather than 2.5 g/L.
Label / history
Viticulture in Valpolicella is traced to the fifth century BC. Cuvée XVII reflects the family’s holdings in the historic Classico zone and is produced entirely from estate-grown fruit.
