Tasting profile
A red that balances power with an easy-drinking style.
Label / history
The name "Ocra" comes from an Etruscan word meaning "blood of the earth."
The earliest historical reference to Cusona dates to 994, when it was recorded as an estate of the Bibbiano family. In the first decades of the 15th century it belonged to the Bardi family, who were already growing vines and making wine from Vernaccia grapes there. A century later Count Girolamo Guicciardini married a woman from the Bardi family, and Cusona passed to him; it has remained with the Guicciardini family since. Francesco Guicciardini, who served as Minister of Agriculture, managed the estate for three years from 1906. The Strozzi and Guicciardini families are closely linked with the Renaissance; the Strozzi connection with the Medici family is historically documented.
