Label / history
The first historical mention of the Cusona estate dates to 994, when it was recorded as belonging to the Bibbiano family. In the first decades of the fifteenth century the estate belonged to the Bardi family, who were already growing vines and making wine from Vernaccia there. A century later Count Girolamo Guicciardini married a woman from the Bardi family and gained the estate, which has stayed with the Guicciardini family ever since. The wines of Cusona were mentioned in the writings of Dante and praised by Michelangelo. Francesco Guicciardini, who served as Minister of Agriculture, managed the estate for three years from 1906. The Strozzi and Guicciardini families are historically linked with the Renaissance, through Palazzo Strozzi and a documented connection with the Medici.
