About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Susumaniello, a rare native variety, grows in the fertile, rich soils of the Salento peninsula, an area with a long winemaking tradition. The climate is warm and Mediterranean. The vines are 10 years old on average.
Vinification
The grapes are usually harvested by hand in late September. Maceration and fermentation take place at a controlled temperature of 20–22 °C and last 10–15 days.
Ageing
The wine is aged for at least 2 months in stainless steel tanks. After bottling it spends a further 2 months in the winery's cellars, to develop its aroma and taste.
Tasting profile
Expressive, with rich fruit and spice aromas. The palate is fresh and balanced, with a Mediterranean character.
Label / history
Leone de Castris is a winery in Apulia, founded in 1665. It is now a large producer with a wide range of white, red, rosé, dessert and sparkling wines.
