About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are situated in San Floriano and Cormòns within Collio DOC. Their hilly soils formed during the Eocene and consist of alternating sandstone and marl derived from limestone and clay. The impermeable structure promotes surface runoff, limiting erosion and standing water. The vines are trained to spurred cordon.
Grapes
Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed, then transferred to tanks equipped for red-wine vinification. Alcoholic fermentation starts immediately. Skin contact averages 10–15 days, with the exact duration depending on the vintage and extraction.
Ageing
Twelve months in oak barrels, where the wine also completes malolactic fermentation, followed by approximately six months in bottle.
Technical data
Collio DOC. Approximately 13% alcohol. Bottle formats: 0.375 l and 0.75 l.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red with vivid red highlights. The elegant, complex bouquet centres on red berries, with cocoa and walnut nuances emerging toward the finish. The palate is structured, smooth, full and fruity.
Label / history
Marnasco refers to the characteristic Collio soil known as flysch in Italian and ponca in Friulian. The label name derives from its layers of marl and sandstone.
