About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Syrah and Carignano are grown in Sulcis, southwestern Sardinia. The Mediterranean climate brings limited, unevenly distributed rainfall, frequent northwesterly winds, hot springs and summers, and winters that range from cold and dry to mild. The soils are sandy and calcareous-clayey, mineral-rich and medium-textured.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested relatively early, during the final third of August. They remain in contact with the skins for 24–36 hours to extract colour and aromatic character. After separation from the skins, the juice ferments in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 13–15 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests briefly in stainless steel before bottling, followed by at least one month of bottle ageing.
Label / history
Mesa literally means “dining table” in Sardinia and in Spanish. Cantina Mesa was founded by Gavino Sanna and Giuseppe Mele. Its vineyards cover 100 ha among the bright skies, sea and hills of Porto Pino. The winery has a minimalist white façade decorated with motifs inspired by traditional Sardinian carpet weaving; designed by Sanna, these motifs also appear on every Cantina Mesa bottle.
