About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from estate-owned vineyards in Bettolino, Martore, Santo Stefano Casina and Torbiere, at 350 m above sea level. Most of the sites face north and are influenced by Lake Iseo. The clay-loam soils are of glacial and alluvial origin, with a high proportion of stones.
Vinification
Grapes from each plot are vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at 17 °C using selected yeasts. Secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle according to the traditional method, again using selected yeasts.
Ageing
The base wine rests on its lees in stainless-steel tanks for five months. After secondary fermentation, the wine remains on its lees in bottle for at least 24 months. At least 30 months elapse between harvest and disgorgement.
Tasting profile
The wine has a straightforward, simple profile that retains the distinctive character of its Franciacorta terroir.
Label / history
Since the 2020 harvest, Riccardo Cotarella and his team have advised Tenuta Villa Crespia, a change accompanied by significant investment in the winery. Novalia Brut received a gold medal at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2022.
