About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The white and red grape varieties used for the base wine are grown in Piedmont.

Grapes

This is the only vermouth in Perlino’s range whose dry base wine combines white and red grape varieties.

Vinification

Made according to a 1922 recipe, the dry base wine is blended with sugar syrup, alcohol, and an infusion of aromatic herbs and spices. The finished vermouth contains 14 g of sugar per 100 ml.

Label / history

The vermouth takes its name from Cesare da Sesto, a Renaissance painter and pupil of Leonardo. The word “vermouth” derives from the German “Wermut,” meaning wormwood. Turin is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of vermouth, while Hippocrates is credited with devising its original recipe. In the 17th century, the Piedmontese Alessio introduced vermouth to the King of Bavaria, after which it became established at his court. In 1786, Antonio Benedetto Carpano opened the first large-scale vermouth production facility in Turin.
