Label / history
The Albinelli name has roots in medieval Emilia-Romagna and is also used by Modena’s best-known market, where Italian merchants have traded since the Middle Ages. Historically, they transported wine, vinegar, cheese and cured meats to other regions and nearby countries, returning with spirits, oil and wines. Family members accompanied shipments, which had to withstand journeys lasting several days.
Wine became a particular passion among Emilia-Romagna’s merchants. Rather than buying vineyards, they travelled throughout Italy to select wines and bring them back to Emilia-Romagna for sale. This combination of wine knowledge and commercial experience inspired Perlino to create the Albinelli collection around established Italian wine regions, grape varieties and styles.
