About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Ulmo and Dispensa vineyards, situated between 100 and 400 metres above sea level in the areas of Sambuca di Sicilia and Menfi. Ulmo covers 53 hectares in Sambuca di Sicilia and has a north-west exposure, with stony, slightly calcareous soils of medium texture. Dispensa covers 110 hectares in Menfi; its shallow, medium-textured soils contain a small proportion of stones, moderate limestone and abundant yellow clay.
Vinification
Harvest begins on 10 September. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, then fermented and macerated for 14 days in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 °C.
Ageing
After racking, the wine matures for 14 months in 225-litre barrels made from French oak sourced from Allier. Bottling takes place in the second half of February.

The 2009 vintage has a rich, rounded and powerful palate.
