About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the approximately 3 ha Via Bolgherese vineyard, at about 56 m above sea level, with western and south-western exposure. The soil consists of gravel, red sand and clay and, together with the local climate, is somewhat reminiscent of Bordeaux. The vines average 20 years of age. Hot Tuscan sunshine is moderated by cool breezes from the nearby sea, while the surrounding hills shelter the vines from northerly winds.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand during the first week of October, transported to the winery in small 15 kg crates and selected on a sorting table. Fermentation lasts 10 days in stainless-steel tanks at 28–30 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation at 22 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18–24 months in new 225-litre barrels of French Allier oak, followed by a further 12 months in bottle.
Label / history
“Dedicato a Walter” means “Dedicated to Walter.” Franco and Marilisa Allegrini created the wine in memory of their brother Walter, who had been responsible for the family estate’s vineyards and died in 2003.
