About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow in Friuli-Venezia Giulia on gravelly soils containing sandy marl and sandy alluvial deposits. The vineyards associated with Lea Winery cover 100 hectares and are managed by a team of winegrowers. They are SQNPI-certified for integrated production and are being converted fully to organic viticulture.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled 18 °C.

Ageing

The wine rests on its fine lees for six months before bottling.

Tasting profile

Elegant and easy to drink.

Serving and pairing

Pairs with simple dishes.

Vintage notes

In 2020, winter in Friuli-Venezia Giulia was very mild, without sharp temperature changes. Fairly dry conditions in April and May supported flowering. June was the wettest summer month, although steady air currents helped keep the vines healthy. Subsequent rainy periods alternated regularly with dry spells that were not excessively hot, allowing the grapes to retain a balance between sugar and acidity as they ripened.

Label / history

The Poderi di Carlo brand was created to celebrate the winemaking traditions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Its wines bear the name of Carlo Primosich, founder of the family business. In the late nineteenth century, he left Collio with carts carrying large wooden barrels in search of a better future. Carlo remains an important family name and is passed to an heir in each generation.

Poderi di Carlo began a partnership with Lea Winery in 2020. The SQNPI certification relates to the National Quality System for Integrated Production, whose objective is to maintain the economic efficiency of low-impact agricultural methods.
