About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Radikon is based in Oslavia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, near the Slovenian border in northeastern Italy. Its 12 hectares of vineyards have clay soils containing rock fragments. The low-growing vines are densely planted at 6,500–10,000 vines per hectare. Cultivation is biodynamic and relies on organic methods, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides and with minimal intervention.
Grapes
The blend combines Merlot with Pignolo, a variety native to Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at full ripeness and destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place without temperature control in truncated-cone wooden fermenters, with 15–30 days of skin maceration. The wine is neither fined nor filtered. It is bottled with no added sulfites or with only a negligible addition of 1 mg/L.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 18 months in old 25–35-hectolitre casks, followed by six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Elegant, with natural flavour and powerful, complex, layered aromas.
