About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Brio is a young Sangiovese expression of Tuscan terroir. The 2024 wine was sourced entirely from Montalcino. A small portion of fruit from Scansano may be included in some vintages, but the generous 2024 harvest made this unnecessary.
Grapes
Sangiovese, described more broadly as coming from indigenous Tuscan grape varieties.
Vinification
The 2024 vintage was vinified exclusively in stainless-steel tanks, preserving the wine’s fruit intensity and freshness.
Technical data
Toscana Rosso IGT. Production of the 2024 vintage totaled 20,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Fresh and fruit-driven, with balance, elegance, energy and persistent flavor. The 2024 vintage combines polished cherry and redcurrant fruit with a smooth texture and a savory, faintly saline nuance. The 2023 vintage was vibrant and expressive, showing strawberry, cherry, mineral tones and wild herbs over a delicate texture, with sustained intensity and a lingering finish.
Serving and pairing
Designed to accompany a broad selection of pasta and meat dishes. The published drinking window for the 2023 vintage extends through 2032.
Vintage notes
Brio was first produced in 1991, discontinued after 1999 and revived in 2021. The 2024 release received 91/100 from Monica Larner and totaled 20,000 bottles. The 2023 release received 92/100 from Bruce Sanderson; production was reported as 1,900 cases, including 300 cases imported.
Label / history
The label reproduces a large fresco by Sandro Chia installed in Castello Romitorio’s main dining room in Montalcino. Its archaic, dreamlike imagery includes a chessboard symbolizing existence, a violin representing the sound of souls, and a clock evoking the cycle of life, the transience of time, order and structure. These motifs parallel Brio’s energetic and musical character and the interaction of nature, soul and time.
