About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Rondinella grapes grow in Mezzane di Sotto, in the province of Verona. The vineyards lie near the Alps on hillsides at 200–300 m above sea level. The vines are 10 to 15 years old and grow in sandy, silty soils rich in white limestone. The climate is mild. Lake Garda is nearby, and the Alpine ranges protect the vineyards from cold northern winds. The grapes ripen fully and develop rich aromas and refreshing acidity.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness. They undergo a gentle cold maceration. Fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 12–13 °C.
Ageing
The wine ages on fine lees in steel tanks. It is cold-stabilised before bottling.
Tasting profile
Fresh, with an inviting fruit-and-berry character, rich aromas and refreshing acidity.
Serving and pairing
Suited to an aperitif, or as an ingredient in an elderflower cocktail.
Label / history
Scaia is a range of young wines from Tenuta Sant'Antonio. In Venetian dialect "scaia" means "flakes of stone, chalk and limestone", a reference to the land where the wines are made.
