About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from Tenuta Sant'Antonio's best vineyards on the slopes of Monti Garbi, at around 300 m above sea level. The soils are mainly limestone, and the vineyards have full grass cover. A green harvest in summer reduces yields and concentrates nutrients in the remaining bunches.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand in the second half of September and pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperature with selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation follows in barrels.
Ageing
The wine ages for 24 months in new 500-litre French oak tonneaux.
Tasting profile
Intense fruit and berry aromas with spicy notes, in the Valpolicella style.
Vintage notes
Jancis Robinson described the 2020 as delightful, with silky tannins, plenty to explore and wonderfully fresh, captivating fruit at its heart, which she called exactly how Valpolicella should taste.
Label / history
The name comes from the local landscape and its old mountain paths. Walkers in the Monti Garbi hills used a small metal sheet on the roof of the Castagnedi family home as a landmark. It moved in the wind like a flag, or bandina.
