About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Santedame Estate in Castellina in Chianti, at the heart of Chianti Classico. Its high-hill vineyards lie at 350–470 m on the south-facing slopes of the Conca d’Oro. Soils range from loamy clay to loamy sand and contain abundant gravel. Across the estate, surface galestro, dry and windswept steep hills, and marked day-to-night temperature changes characterize the higher vineyard areas.

The estate covers 250 hectares, including 70 hectares under vine. Its history reaches back to the fifteenth century, and its name derives from the Santedame Chapel.

Grapes

80% Sangiovese; the remaining 20% comprises Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other complementary grape varieties.

Vinification

Alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place together in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats for approximately 21 days. Pump-overs and délestage assist extraction.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24 months in concrete tanks and barriques, including a final six months in barriques. This maturation supports its fresh, fruit-led Chianti Classico style while adding a measured influence from barrel ageing.
