About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Freisa comes from the I Bricchi estate on the boundary between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme. The technical sheet identifies a 0.9-hectare vineyard in Acqui Terme at 400 m above sea level, with an easterly exposure and coordinates 44.706897, 8.416977. It was planted in 2005 on red soils containing a good proportion of clay. Across the estate, vineyards range from 350 m to more than 400 m and are predominantly oriented south-west.

Grapes

Freisa.

Vinification

The grapes undergo 12 days of skin maceration in steel tanks, with two manual pump-overs each day. Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked into steel, where malolactic fermentation is completed.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24 months in steel tanks before bottling.

Technical data

The sole format is 0.75 L. It is presented in an amber-coloured Burgundy bottle with an elongated neck, made exclusively for Scarpa and embossed with the winery trademark.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet is intense and centred on small berries, particularly raspberry, with fine spicy nuances. The palate is full and enveloping, marked by pronounced tannin and pleasant freshness, followed by a persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Suggested pairings include meat ravioli, risotto with Castelmagno cheese, grilled meat, bagna caoda, lamb chops, mature or goat cheese, and tuna tartare with avocado. Aromatic accompaniments include béarnaise sauce, liquorice, star anise and tarragon. The wine has an ageing potential of more than 15 years.
