About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Sangiovese and Canaiolo vineyards lie near the town of Vinci in the province of Florence, at 700 metres above sea level. The soils contain clay, pebbles, shell rock and mineral fossils.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks at 26–28 °C, followed by 10–12 days of maceration.

Ageing

After fermentation the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It remains there for 2 years.

Tasting profile

Rich and well balanced, with velvety tannins and fresh fruit acidity.

Label / history

The wine is labelled Chianti Riserva DOCG. Calappiano is the estate at the heart of the Sensi company, near Vinci. The Sensi family has been making wine since 1890.
