About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Sangiovese comes from Prenzano-Petriolo, Orto and Poggio Asciutto, close to Vignamaggio’s Renaissance villa in Greve in Chianti. Prenzano was once a Vignamaggio farmstead and is the highest zone in the estate’s historic core. Its predominantly south-west-facing terrain lies only a few hundred metres from the villa. The soil has a pronounced sandy component comparable to that found around Lamole. Prenzano’s vines average approximately 20 years of age and give fresh, fruit-led, medium-bodied Sangiovese. Yield is 45 hl/ha.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Prenzano and Petriolo are harvested manually, while Orto and Poggio Asciutto are machine harvested. After destemming, the grapes enter stainless-steel tanks for fermentation and ten days of skin maceration, with délestage and pumping over. After racking, the wine is decanted and undergoes malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine matures for about one year in large oak barrels of 20–40 hl, allowing Sangiovese’s fruit and freshness to remain prominent. It then rests in bottle for at least three months.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13.5–14% vol. Production: 130,000 bottles. Formats: 375 ml, 750 ml and 1,500 ml.

Tasting profile

Intense red in colour, with a fresh, fruity bouquet and varietal red-fruit aromas. Blueberry and prune linger on the palate alongside a light vanilla nuance. The wine is well structured, with light tannins and a balanced finish; its overall character is fruity, vibrant and harmonious.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C.

Label / history

The name recalls Prenzano, an old Vignamaggio farmstead whose land remains one of the wine’s principal grape sources.
