About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Casole in the Lamole UGA, among the highest sectors of the Chianti Classico denomination. Querciabella has managed 8.5 hectares here since 2020. The vineyards occupy steep, historic terraces between 500 and almost 650 metres above sea level.
Sangiovese grows in light, sandy and freely draining soils formed from Macigno del Chianti, with clay and schist interspersed through the terrain. Elevation, plentiful water and the cooling effect of the surrounding chestnut forests help retain freshness, aromatic lift and clarity.
Grapes
Sangiovese.
Vinification
The wine undergoes 30 days of maceration on the skins. Querciabella’s broader Genius Loci work is based on detailed vineyard research, single-parcel vinification and comparative tasting, seeking a precise expression of the relationship between each site and Sangiovese.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 16–18 months in large casks holding 25–30 hl, followed by 30 months in bottle.
Technical data
Chianti Classico DOCG. Average wine yield is 30 hl/ha. Alcohol is 13% vol. Annual production is 2,800 bottles. Available formats are 750 ml in a three-bottle cardboard box and 1.5 L in an individual wooden case.
Tasting profile
The 2021 is a bright, fragrant and floral high-altitude Sangiovese with a pale colour and moderate alcohol. Aromas of sliced plum, cherry and dried orange peel meet restrained floral and earthy accents. Medium-bodied and elegantly structured, the palate is taut and precise, combining lifted, vibrant acidity with delicate savoury notes, fine-grained tannins and a refined mineral backbone. Though reserved in youth, its poised tension points toward graceful evolution, retaining an ethereal, luminous character.
Serving and pairing
Its light, aromatic profile and savoury tension suit dishes that reflect the wine’s delicacy and high-altitude freshness. Suggested pairings include truffled mushroom risotto, roast quail with citrus glaze and herb-roasted rabbit. More adventurous options are seared scallops with saffron and ginger, charred king oyster mushrooms with smoked paprika and herb oil, and Moroccan-spiced vegetable tagine with preserved lemon.
Vintage notes
The 2021 Lamole joined Querciabella’s Genius Loci project as one of three site-specific Gran Selezione wines from Greve, Radda and Lamole. It expresses the Lamole site through brightness, fragrance, floral lift, pale colour, fine tannins and vibrant acidity.
Label / history
Genius Loci—“the spirit of place”—is the culmination of almost two decades of exploration across Chianti Classico. Parcel-level research, separate vinification and tasting underpin the three 2021 Gran Selezione bottlings, each intended to articulate the character of its origin.
