About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

As part of a decade-long modernization plan, Villa Calcinaia redeveloped its historic vineyards and restored their terraced land. The vines were replanted along the contours rather than down the steepest slopes. The renewed vineyards lie on clay and limestone soils and are surrounded by the large umbrella pines of the Bastignano farm.

Grapes

The historic vineyards were restored vine by vine using an old Sangiovese clone.

Ageing

The wine matures for 20 months in Slavonian oak barrels and cement tanks, followed by 12 months in bottle.

Tasting profile

The wine has a fine structure.

Label / history

Vigna Bastignano originated in 2006 from grapes grown in the renewed vineyards. Its name comes from the Bastignano farm.
