About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Made only in the best vintages from the four-hectare Vigna Caracci at San Castrese–Sessa Aurunca, on the slopes of the extinct Roccamonfina volcano. Planted in 1965, it is one of the oldest and best-exposed vineyards in the locality. Its volcanic soil has good levels of phosphorus, potassium and trace elements. The vineyard has 3,500 vines per hectare, trained to simple Guyot with approximately six to eight buds per plant and managed through low-impact integrated cultivation.
Grapes
100% Falanghina, specifically the Falerna biotype from Vigna Caracci.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at night during the second ten days of September. Cryomaceration is used to enhance aromatic and structural extraction. Fermentation takes place partly in terracotta amphorae of 150, 300 and 500 litres, with a very small proportion fermented in Allier oak barriques and stainless steel. Wine yield is 3,000 litres per hectare.
Ageing
Part of the wine undergoes bâtonnage on fine lees in amphorae for approximately three months, followed by extended ageing in glass.
Technical data
The first vintage was 1989. Production totals 10,000 bottles. Formats are 750 and 1,500 ml, with an ageing potential of 10–12 years.
Tasting profile
Intense straw yellow with golden highlights. Lemon blossom, apple, banana and pineapple are joined by eucalyptus and pine needles. Savoury and mineral nuances shape the aromatic profile. The palate is full, velvety and persistent, combining elegance with character.
Serving and pairing
