Vineyard and terroir
Blatterle comes, depending on the component vintage, from the Leiten sites in Magrè and from Bolzano. The vineyards lie at 240–260 m a.s.l. on sandy, calcareous soils and deep alluvial deposits. They are farmed organically. These origins contribute structure, finesse and spice.
Grapes
Blatterle from four vintages: 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Vinification
Each vintage was interpreted separately. All four were fermented on the skins and stems, in some cases with a proportion of whole clusters and in others entirely destemmed. Fermentation took place partly in wooden vessels and partly in stainless steel.
Ageing
The components matured in used small oak barrels.
Technical data
Alcohol: 11% vol. Acidity: 5.5 g/L. Production was limited to 589 bottles.
Tasting profile
The wine's origin and variety are associated with structure, finesse and spice.
Vintage notes
Skin-contact time differed among the four components. The 2020 vintage received the longest extraction, remaining on the skins for a full year with approximately one-third whole clusters. That component had previously appeared independently as a COMETS wine and now forms part of this multi-vintage blend.
Label / history
COMETS provides a framework for experimental projects, some fleeting and others pursued over several years. Each label is individually marked with a fingertip-painted comet tail.
