Vineyard and terroir
Bronner vines planted in 2012 grow at Leisterhof on steep slopes behind Castel Tirolo near Merano. The technical sheet identifies the origin as the Leiten hillside above Magrè, at 230–360 metres above sea level. The moderately heavy soil contains paragneiss and mica schist. The vineyard is cultivated biodynamically and has Demeter certification.
Grapes
100% Bronner, a first-generation PIWI variety bred from Märzling and Saint Laurent.
Vinification
After harvest, the grapes were crushed and cold-macerated overnight in a refrigerated room. The crushed whole clusters were then pressed, and spontaneous fermentation took place in stainless steel.
Ageing
Following the first racking, the wine matured for 16 months in a single barrique. It was bottled unfiltered at the end of January 2025.
Technical data
Alcohol: 13% vol. Acidity: 5.1 g/L. The entire limited production filled only one barrique.
Vintage notes
The 2023 bottling explores the potential of mature Bronner vines at very small scale.
Label / history
Comets provides a framework for experimental wines, some made only once and others developed over several years. Every label is personalised with a comet’s tail painted by fingertip.
