Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
Lagrein grows in the Sand vineyard on the alluvial scree and talus cone around Magrè, at 230–320 metres above sea level. The gravelly, sandy soil contains a high proportion of dolomitic limestone. This geological setting contributes to the intended fruity, fresh and rounded style.
Grapes
Lagrein.
Vinification
The wine undergoes spontaneous maceration. Malolactic fermentation is divided between stainless-steel tanks and casks.
Technical data
The published 2021 vintage has 11% alcohol by volume.
Tasting profile
Cherry red with a ruby shimmer. The relatively aromatic nose brings together plum, liquorice, cocoa, spice and floral notes. Full-bodied and intense on the palate, it is linear and balanced, with silky, well-integrated tannins.
Serving and pairing
Pair with red meats such as beef and lamb, as well as venison, game and cheeses. Best enjoyed between two and eight years from vintage.
Label / history
The Lagrein planting on the little-known Magrè talus cone began roughly a decade before the published description. CONUS derives from the Latin word for “cone,” referring to the talus cone’s geological form.
