Vineyard and terroir

LIL'KRA · XXIII comes from a newly planted, 1.2 ha single vineyard at the Krafuss Estate in Appiano Monte, at 430–450 m. The soils are loamy and gravelly over calcareous glacial deposits. Although the site was not initially regarded as a conventional Burgundy-style location, its potential for Pinot Noir has become increasingly evident, and the parcel is being developed as a new Grand Cru site. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically and carries Demeter certification.

Grapes

100% Pinot Noir.

Vinification

The grapes were harvested at the end of August 2021. Skin contact lasted approximately one week and included a small proportion of whole clusters. The restrained approach to vinification was intended to preserve lightness and fruit.

Ageing

After a brief period in stainless steel, the wine matured for approximately 17 months in a large oval oak cask. It passed through a slightly reductive phase during maturation, adding tension and complexity. Bottling took place at the end of January 2025.

Technical data

Alcohol: 11.5% vol.
Acidity: 5.1 g/L.
Production: 1,992 bottles.

Vintage notes

The 2021 harvest was the first crop from this newly planted vineyard and coincided with an excellent Pinot Noir growing year.

Label / history

LIL'KRA belongs to the COMETS collection, Alois Lageder's series of experimental, sometimes one-off projects. Each COMETS label is personalised with a comet's tail applied by fingertip. The Roman numeral XXIII identifies the project edition.
