Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Lindenburg Estate in Bolzano, at 280 metres above sea level. Bolzano occupies a broad valley basin formed by converging rivers and is among Italy’s warmest cities in summer, creating favourable conditions for Lagrein. The estate lies in a site traditionally regarded as one of Alto Adige’s two finest locations for this variety.

Deep, rich alluvial soils occur along the Isarco and Talvera rivers. The vineyards were renovated in the 1950s while preserving the traditional pergola training system.

Grapes

Lagrein.

Vinification

Spontaneous fermentation takes place on the grape mash, partly using whole bunches.

Ageing

The wine matures for a couple of months in large wooden casks, followed by approximately one year of bottle ageing.

Technical data

The published vintage is 2021 and the official shop classifies it as Mitterberg IGT. The wine page gives 12.0% alcohol by volume, while the official shop entry for the same vintage gives 12.5%. The available bottle format is 750 ml.

Tasting profile

Cherry red with ruby highlights. The intense, aromatic nose combines fruit and spice with leather and dark-chocolate notes. Full-bodied and lively on the palate, with evident tannins, freshness and a refined bitter edge.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18 °C. Pair with red meats such as beef and lamb, as well as venison, game and cheeses. The recommended drinking window is 3–10 years.

Label / history

The estate takes its name from the linden tree growing at its entrance. Lindenburg has served as the Lageder family residence for three generations.
