Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from the historic Löwengang Estate vineyards at Magrè. When the Lageder family acquired the estate in 1934, its vines were already about 60 years old. Parts of the vineyard are now approximately 145 years old, placing their establishment around 1875. Count Melchiori planted the original parcels with Carménère, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Magrè stands on a talus cone composed of dolomite rock. Gravel was deposited over millennia by repeated flooding of the Rio Favogna. During the day, the Ora wind brings warmth from Lake Garda; in the evening, cooler air flows from the Favogna Gorge and lowers nighttime temperatures.

The old genetic material has been preserved and extended through sélection massale, using the historic vines to propagate and enlarge the vineyard area.

Grapes

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carménère grow in the historic parcels.
