Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay comes from south and southeast-facing vineyards at 100–400 metres in the Valpantena hills outside Verona. Cool breezes descending from the Dolomite foothills moderate the climate, encouraging slow ripening and helping preserve aromatic compounds and acidity. Poor, chalky soils restrict vine vigour. Vines average 20–30 years old and are trained to both Pergola Veronese and Guyot.
Grapes
100% Chardonnay.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand, chilled and whole-bunch pressed in a pneumatic press. After natural settling, the juice was racked with a small proportion of light solids. Half was fermented with ambient yeast and half with cultured yeast. Fermentation took place at 15–18°C, with equal portions in 500-litre French oak puncheons and stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine remained for six months in the same French oak and stainless-steel vessels before bottling.
Technical data
ABV is 13%, acidity 5.8 g/L, pH 3.4 and residual sugar 4.75 g/L. The 75 cl bottle is sealed with a screwcap. Suitable for vegetarian and vegan consumers.
Tasting profile
Bright straw yellow, with an aromatic, concentrated character and a mineral thread. The palate is clean, fresh and fruit-driven, with medium body and a long finish.
Vintage notes
The 2022 season was dry and warm. The fruit remained healthy without significant disease pressure, and harvest delivered grapes of strong quality.
