Vineyard and terroir

The vineyards occupy hills outside Verona in the Valpantena Valley. Cool air descending from the Dolomite foothills moderates the local climate, allowing slow ripening and helping the grapes retain aromatic compounds and acidity. Poor, chalky soils place the vines under beneficial stress.

Grapes

75% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 5% Corvinone.

Vinification

The grapes were harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed before being pumped into stainless-steel tanks. The must remained in contact with the skins for eight days, followed by fermentation at 22–28°C. Malolactic fermentation also took place in stainless steel. The wine was then transferred to concrete tanks, where it underwent final filtration and remained until bottling. Bottled under screwcap. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Ageing

Held in concrete tanks until bottling.

Technical data

2023: 12.5% ABV, pH 3.35, acidity 5.8 g/L and residual sugar 5 g/L. Winemakers: Matt Thomson and Michele Peroni.

Tasting profile

Bright, youthful ruby. A lively cherry fragrance develops into fresh, ripe cherry-pie flavours on the palate. Soft, rounded and juicy tannins provide body, balance the exuberant young fruit and carry it through the finish.

Vintage notes

The 2023 season was very hot and dry, reducing yields but producing highly concentrated grapes of excellent quality.
