Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the La Fuga estate near Camigliano, on the southwestern slope of Montalcino. The vineyards lie at about 350 m above sea level and cover 9.8 hectares close to the sea. Their soils contain fossils and material from the extinct Monte Amiata volcano. Planting density is 4,000–5,500 vines per hectare, and average yields do not exceed 4 tonnes per hectare.
Grapes
The wine is made from selected fruit.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at full ripeness in October. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks for 20 days at a controlled temperature of 28 °C.
Ageing
The 2001 vintage matured for five years in 25- and 30-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks, followed by an extended period in bottle.
Label / history
Produced only in the best years, Le Due Sorelle pays tribute to Giovanna and Fabia Cornaro, Ambrogio Folonari’s wife and daughter-in-law. Its first vintage was 1997.
