Grapes
A blend led by Sangiovese with other complementary grape varieties.
Vinification
For the 2023 vintage, the freshly harvested grapes were destemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled 28–30 °C. Skin contact lasted approximately 10–14 days, accompanied by controlled mechanical operations to obtain balanced aromatic and structural extraction and supple tannins.
Sangiovese underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, while selected lots of the complementary varieties completed malolactic fermentation in second- and third-fill barriques. The lots were subsequently blended.
Ageing
The assembled wine continued to mature in oak until the end of spring 2025, predominantly in large-format barrels and partly in barriques. Bottling began in July 2025.
Tasting profile
The 2023 is ruby red. Marasca cherry and candied orange lead the bouquet, joined by sweet vanilla and icing-sugar notes and floral nuances of rose petal and mallow. Licorice, cedarwood and caramel form a complex sweet-spice background. The palate opens rich and enveloping yet remains balanced. Sweet, savory and silky tannins carry a long, energetic finish with pleasant oak-derived notes.
Vintage notes
The 2023 season began with a moderately cold, dry winter. Cool, rainy conditions from late April through the second half of June demanded careful vineyard management and encouraged sparse bunches with small berries. Summer was warm and dry without extreme heat. Moderate August rainfall lowered temperatures and supported an even ripening period. Regular conditions through September and October preserved strong fruit potential. Sangiovese picking began in the second half of September, and the complementary varieties were completed in the second week of October.
Label / history
Villa Antinori represents a balance between experimentation and evolution on one side and continuity of tradition on the other. The wine was first produced from the 1928 vintage. Its name is connected with the Antinori family villa and was chosen by Niccolò Antinori for his interpretation of Chianti Classico and Tuscan identity. Following the inauguration of the Antinori nel Chianti Classico cellars, the historic concept was reinterpreted as a Riserva with a delicate yet decisive and elegant style.
