Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Turriga vineyard, at 230 metres above sea level. The southeast-facing site has limestone soil containing pebbles and stones, and its vines were planted in 1975.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in September and October, early in the morning, by the winery’s most skilled staff. After sorting, the berries macerate for 16–18 days. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats at 28–32 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in new French oak barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
The blend is balanced, including when young. Cannonau contributes structure, Carignano roundness and body, Bovale Sardo rich fruit character, and Malvasia Nera a measured tannic element.
Label / history
The wine celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018. It was originally created by Giacomo Tachis; his work is continued by Mariano Murru, Argiolas’s technical director and winemaker. In 1991, Turriga became one of the first bottled wines exported from Sardinia.
