Vineyard and terroir

The Cabernet Franc comes from La Badia at Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno. The site lies only a few kilometres from the coast, where sea breezes contribute freshness, elegance, savouriness and a Mediterranean, balsamic character. Its silty-loam soil is characteristic of the La Badia area, and the vines are trained to spurred cordon.

Grapes

100% Cabernet Franc.

Vinification

The grapes were harvested in the third week of September. Fermentation and maceration lasted 25 days.

Ageing

The wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Technical data

The 2023 vintage has 14% alcohol, total acidity of 5.7 g/L and residual sugar of 0.7 g/L. Production is limited to 1,500 bottles in 0.75 L format.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet combines forest fruits with fresh balsamic notes and a light spicy accent. Velvety, persistent tannins provide a balanced impression of sweetness, while mineral and savoury elements bring lively freshness. The result is deep and elegant.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18 °C. Cellaring potential is 20 years.

Vintage notes

The 2023 season combined a mild winter and rainy spring with a hot, dry summer that promoted steady ripening. Rain at the end of August and marked temperature variation in September completed the cycle, producing healthy grapes with aromatic complexity and a strong balance between ripeness and acidity.

Label / history

“Testè” is an old Tuscan expression meaning “just now,” referring to the instant of the first sip, when the Cabernet Franc's Mediterranean and balsamic personality emerges.
