Vineyard and terroir

The grapes are grown at Bellaria in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, Montalcino, at 350 m above sea level. The site has a Mediterranean climate and calcareous soil containing abundant skeletal material.

100% Sangiovese grosso.

Vinification

Traditional vinification includes 10–15 days of maceration at controlled temperature.

Ageing

Matured for 9–12 months in 30 hL oak casks, followed by at least three months in bottle.

Technical data

Alcohol ranges from 13.5% to 14%.

Tasting profile

Medium-intensity ruby red with purple highlights. The wine is structured yet lively and elegant, with raspberry fruit, aromatic-herb spice and fresh balsamic nuances. Its texture is rounded and silky. Published tasting commentary also notes dark plum compote, brambleberry and blueberry, together with good fruit concentration; another assessment highlights cherry and iron, succulence, agility and abundant powdery tannins.

Serving and pairing

Pair with red meat, game and aged cheeses. Suitable for medium-term ageing; keep in a dark place at a constant temperature no higher than 15°C.
